I have loved everything about Tottenham Hotspur for as long as I can remember. Something about the club made me fall in love with it at such a young age. If I had to pinpoint something in particular that makes it such a great club, it would be the fact that are not really well-liked as a whole in England. Nevertheless, their fan-base does not care at all what others think of them, so I wanted to become a part of that.
Dedication to Spurs
Since about 2010, I have become dedicated to the club. Every day I check news, rumors, highlights, and everything related to the club. Every year Spurs play 38 regular season matches. I attempt to watch every single one of them, even if I have to stream it on my phone in the grocery store. Along with the regular season matches, they play in other competitions such as the Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup. I also try to watch all of these matches. However, all of the Europa League matches are on Thursdays and kick off ranges from about 1:15-2:45 Eastern Time, so sometimes I am unable to watch it due to school. However, I record the match, and watch it at a later time. In all, there are about 55 matches, and each match in 90 minutes. As a result, I dedicate 82.5 hours per year of purely watching Tottenham! If that is not dedication, then I am not sure what is!
For the Premier League matches, they are on weekends, and kick off time ranges from 7am-12pm. As a result I have to set my alarm about 20 minutes before kick off in order to prepare for the match. After I wake up, I have to look at the lineups for both teams, and then I have to put on the Tottenham jersey. I have about 7 different jerseys so I like to switch it up for each match. If I am at home for the match, I either watch it in my room or in the family room. At halftime, I look on Twitter to see the other Tottenham fans' reaction for the first half of play. During the second half of all matches, I always have to stand up in front of the television. I am not sure of the origins of that tradition, but it has just become habit.
Greatest Memory
Some of my greatest memories have come as a result of watching Tottenham play. I distinctly remember watching Gareth Bale's incredible performance against Olympique Lyon in the Europa League. Bale scored a free kick in the first half from about 35 yards. Then, with the game tied at 1-1, there was another opportunity to score a winner as Bale was fouled about 25 yards away from goal. In the 95th minute Bale stepped up and scored. I went ballistic, and fell even more in love with the club. That season, Spurs made it to the quarterfinals of the Europa League, eventually losing to Basel F.C. in penalties.
