Traveling and experiencing places around the world has shaped who I am today I feel that going to see various places and learning about other cultures is a priceless occurrence. If I had the opportunity to, I’d like to spend the rest of my life visiting new countries, and interacting with people who have their own set of customs and way of life.
One of my trips I have taken was my Western Mediterranean cruise. First, my mother and I flew from Orlando to Frankfurt, Germany. I remember that flight feeling really short, but I was later informed that I slept the whole time! After a few hours of layover time, we flew to Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona was a whole new experience. I quickly realized that Barcelona is almost like a whole different country to the rest of Spain. The people speak a different language, and as a whole, the people dislike the rest of Spain.
In the hotel we were staying at, there was a restaurant where we could eat breakfast in the morning. The waiter came over to serve us, and he started speaking German to us. At first I was really confused because I did not know what language he was speaking, but eventually I caught on. He finally realized my mom and I were Americans, so he started speaking English. I was amazed at how good his English was, so I asked how is able to speak multiple languages so well. He said that he was born is Slovakia, and lived in Germany, Hungary, Italy, and now Spain.
A few days later we got on the cruise ship and set sail. Our first stop was Toulon, France. We disembarked the ship and walked around the town. I thought it was fascinating in all aspects including architecture, culture, and vibes. The next day, the ship arrived in Nice, France. We walked round that area, which was a lot different from Toulon. We then took a short train to Monte Carlo. I was amazed by the luxurious nature of that city.
The next day the ship arrived in Italy. We took a cab to Pisa. In Pisa, we saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which is something I have always wanted to do. The subsequent stop took us to Civitavecchia, which is a suburb of Rome. We took a train to Rome and saw all major landmarks, including the Colosseum and Pantheon. Our final stop on the trip was Naples. We saw the Lost City of Pompeii, which was an incredible sight to bear. We then went back on the ship, and it took a few days to get back to Barcelona. We then flew back to Frankfurt to catch our flight back to Orlando. It was truly a once in a lifetime trip.
